Please make sure you have all the minimum requirements for Proton 3. Like Nvidia driverUbuntu And ofcourse make sure Proton is installed by activating steam play beta etc. Step 1: Proton will naturally go looking for steam, so you need to trick proton by faking steam.
Done like this. Step 2: Launching a. ESO on linux has improved even more. Here are some good links to ensure your system is up to date. LLVM package site, not listed on the requirements but it's needed. And the visuals are better as well, see my description in another post about that above. Written Sepember 26th I started running wine 3. My performance in linux now absolutely out performs what i was getting in windows.
This is not a PRO linux statement but rather just a reflection about how crappy my windows installation had become after so many years.Batman Arkham City GOTY on Linux - Fix for SteamPlay/Proton - Fedora 30
With a command something like. I hope my command line is understandable, if not please ask and i will clarify. Written October 3 This is probably going to be my last update on this thread.
After about a month now of playing and learning how to manipulate Proton along with Wine and DXVK, i've learned you can pretty much mix and match those three layers just about any way you want, And using the windows version of Steam launch through Wine usually is a thing of the past.
There is a few Environment variables i want to highlight here. If you want to use proton to launch a non-steam game you are going to have to tell proton where it's fake C Drive is.
As an example with Hellblade: Senua Sacrifice, this line is entered as a launch parameter from the steam game properties. This is useful imo. Here is an example i use for Hellblade again. Once again entered into the game properties as launch options from steam. Here is one last example using all the above variables. Running a non-steam game but you wan to keep that steam overlay friends list etcAnd you rather use a more updated version of Wine, And you want to inject a FPS counter that you can trust.
It conflicts with DXVK. How's performance and are there any glitches? Would love to get ESO running in Linux. The proton package is self contained with static libs and shipped libraries so should be portable to other distros right?
Similar to how steam ships libs for linux Freesync still doesn't work in Linux right? August September I'll preface this as I'm a new arch user, recently switched from Ubuntu so I have learned a lot and still have a lot to learn. I've been able to solve all problems that have come up except this one so I'm hoping you guys can give me some ideas. I have been able to play a few proton based games just fine up until a few weeks ago. Now whenever I launch a game that is proton based it just crashes with a lot of output that I'm having trouble deciphering.
Here is the output when I launch Monster Hunter World. I have also tried messing with the proton version which didn't do anything. Native games work just fine. The fontconfig warning looks weird, and this file was only introduced in the latest update and libfontconfig is not yet in sync that may be an avenue to go down though I'd expect many more reports if this was an actual issue Sorry, I'm not sure why it suddenly stopped working I am successfully using the quite new Steam application, running games using Proton.
The closest information I could find was about an Nvidia driver issue, here, but I don't know if it's the same issue you're seeing Good luck! Ah broken shader caches could definitely be an issue here, afaik there should be an option in steam to not use shader caches somewhere. I actually had to install wine. I can run the simple notpade. I also executed the proton bundled wine directly with notepad. Here is the stdout from that:.
When set to the correct value and execute a real game, I get the same output in the git gist. Let's cover some basics first, install mesa-demos amd libmesa-demos and vulkaninfo and post.
Depending on how many weeks a few weeks ago is: Proton ships with D9VK for roughly 8 weeks now, last updated 2 weeks ago and the config example shows it as enabled reference.
So I think it is reasonable to think that it got enabled by default in the past few weeks and therefore requires Vulkan now. Would be quite weird, I've tested it a bit a few weeks ago and don't think it's really stable yet for quite a few usecases, and AFAIK it's just there so that you can actively switch to it by uncommenting the commented line. Did your games get an update, or did you configure prime offload and were actually on the nvidia card?

It seems that running path of exile with linux via proton breaks the vsync option in the game.
It wouldn't matter that much, except for the fact that I'm using a laptop and all the extra frames are heating my system to the edge of overheating. I even tried using a custom version of proton from gloriousEggroll. It makes the game play really smooth, but the vsync option still seems to be broken.

Last edited by FilthyPanda ; 28 Sep, am. I reduced target FPS to I also reduced all graphics setting to minimum lowest, default. I set anti-aliasing to trilinear since my monitor is 4K any higher, and that's a lot of background math.
I also set PoE resolution to x to keep it from going crazy. I use fullscreen to avoid anything to convert PoE resolution from x to p. I also have vsync enabled because I kept my refresh rate to 30 in-game. Somehow the game doesn't jitter a lot after that.
Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It only takes a minute to sign up. It creates wineprefixes for all of your games that don't already have a Linux port and works a far cry better than wine. The game used to work with Wine, but now has a number of issues for example, fullscreen doesn't work and high tendency to blackscreen in windowed. But it does work with Proton. My intent isn't to circumvent Steam DRM, which running the games via terminal likely wouldn't accomplish anyways, but to run it with dynamic arguments.
This will allow setting up multiplayer matches. This will be applied to other games in the future. I get an Error window: "Application load error P : " and closing this simply brings me back to terminal with no extra output. I've experimented with other games:. Age of Empires 2 HD fails, but with a much more verbose error message window stating steam must be running, but I had Steam running at the time and it would run if I clicked the play button in Steam.
Shadow Complex Remastered gets an actual loader screen of the gameruns for about two seconds then crashes with an error:. Here's an experiment that may help you get the answer.
If I omitted this variable and used all the rest, I could start the game from the command line. It uses ASCII null characters to separate everything, since the actual environment variables may contain newlines. This much was sufficient for The Witcher to run for me. All of those environment variables probably won't be necessary. I leave it to you to test which aren't.
Of course, all of these might be completely unnecessary. Looking at Steam's command-line optionswe have:. So Steam did pass on foo and bar as arguments to the game. This might be all you need. Elder Scroll Online in Linux using PROTON or WINE, Standalone or Steam Version

Bannerman : there is no message at all and even less terminal verbose. I also tried the same thing from inside the proton folder with the same result.

Originally posted by Cat on Linux :. Just the "preparing for launching x game" and the window closes. Proton, installed itself within the NTFS folder too instead of going linux library folder. I guess Im expecting too much, so maybe installing everything on the linux Steam library folder will make the games too work.
I dont want to tweak proton because it is supposed that Valve wants this to work out of the box, If I wanted to be tweaking things, I would stick to Wine directly. Last edited by [Linux] Hellbender ; 22 Aug, pm. It may be a good idea to also include xact there, for some games really have faulty sound withoutit unless of course Proton uses an xact patched wine.
Marlock View Profile View Posts. Crayon Physics Deluxe was playing with no sound when I tested it yesterday I'll try to include xact into its prefix and see if that solves the issue.

The folder Proton 3. It doesn't let me access further down. And I guess I shouldn't change the name of the folder. Originally posted by Seikmann :. Per page: 15 30 Date Posted: 22 Aug, pm. Where do we navigate after telling the app we want to install using Proton? I get met with a filebrowser and i have a folder for Proton but have no idea where to go? Or am I missing something do i still need to run the extractor first then direct it to the exe file for the game?
This is for a GOG game. GameHub will ask you to select the game executable. HadetTheUndying what compat tools do you have in install dialog? Your installer probably did not run successfully. Check Some installers are failing in silent mode so try to uncheck silent options or use innoextract.
Feature request: if GameHub detects that an installer failed produced no files in the correspondent folderthen it should automatically launch it without any command line. I got it working it was just acting strange about some games it was already detecting as installed. ALso it wants to run Duke Nukem non-native now which is kinda odd.
I ended up manually pointing to the exe files and it started working fine for Proton on the games it was having issues with.
I'm using proton for the screen scaling which is super nice to have with my GOG games now too. But yeah the client seems to kinda get confused sometimes i'll try to debug it a bit better than post the output. HadetTheUndying it will use compat tools if game is not supported on Linux or if game's executable ends with ". You can change game's executable in game properties dialog. Oh I see. It was still launching Dosbox, was just i guess using an extra layer.
I just found it a bit odd. Regardless Installers are working now it just wasn't playing nice with some stuff i had already installed I'll get you some debug if i can recreate the bug.
On Monkey Island Special Edition when I get the select executable dialog and I look into the directory there is only the setup file. I was expecting it to be extracted so I can select the executable of the game. It is a GOG game. I've just seen that the setup files are also placed in my home directory.Tried the Proton fixes and launcher configuration but it won't run on my system. Tried fixes noted by previous submissions but did not work.
Tried verifying game files and reinstalling game. Works out-of-the-box with protonfixes but with Proton 4. Doesn't seem to sync saves to the steam cloud for me, havent been able to test if the cloud data system in the menu works between devices yet.
Guide to get to where I'm at :
I used the launch option suggested by others with a few different versions of proton, just make sure you modify it to specific version you are using. I also had no problem running the High Resolution texture mod from Fraggoso. Finished game to completion, no problems. With protonfixes set up, works perfectly out of the box. Presumably will work perfectly with proton versions newer than 3.
I changed to the Proton Version forthe 3. I tried the fix proposed in previous report, and unfortunatly it didnt worked for me, i had to either disable d3d11 or use wine d3d11 to make it work, i dont have the knowledge to know why and how to do a proper solution for me the fix where :.
Apparently there's a bug in version 3. I've played a little over 10 hours on 3. Make sure you set the proton version number in this config to the one you are using! Tried esync, D3D11, etc. Hopefully will be fixed soon -ish! Using workaround published in a report from other user here.
